Before we start - a bit of info that may help :)

Recipes in this section will range from ideas for simple fruits to try, to more indulgent cake, fudge and sweets. All the recipes will be simple and fun, and involve no cooking :)

We hope you enjoy them :)

Feel free to tweak them as you wish, and use them as inspiration for your own creations. Have fun, and share any of your favourite creations in the 'Gelateria Lounge', or contact us here.

Fruit Fondue

This recipe is  adapted from an original recipe in ‘The High Energy Diet Recipe Guide’ by Dr. Douglas Graham.

Equipment required:

  • Measuring cups
  • Bowl
  • Blender
  • Knife and chopping board
  • Toothpicks or forks

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of dried, unsulphured apricots
  • Soak water from the apricots
  • Variety of fruit for dipping - eg. apple, banana, grapes, strawberries, pear

How to:

  • Wash the dried apricots well to remove surface dirt and yeasts (that can be present on all dried fruit), and soak them in a bowl of fresh water overnight.
  • Blend together with some of their soak water to form a thick sauce. Add a little water to start with, and gradually add more as required - so that the sauce is thick enough.
  • Dice up some fresh fruit of your choice (see above for ideas) and arrange on a plate with toothpicks or forks.
  • Dip the fruit into the sauce, and enjoy!

THG Tip:

This makes a great breakfast!

Homemade Halva

This is very simple and delicious - Jana could live off this if I let her!

Equipment required:

  • Food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup of honey

How to:

  • Process the ingredients together in a food processor until the sesame seeds are well broken down.
  • This may take some time. Keep scraping the sides of the food processor bowl down periodically.
  • Once mixed, roll the mixture into walnut-sized balls and refrigerate for 30 minutes before eating :)

THG Tip:

These will keep well for up to 4 days in the fridge. This recipe is also delicious with chopped nuts mixed in by hand at the end (we especially like pistachios), or the seeds from a vanilla pod added at the beginning :)

Simply Fruit

We find it a real treat to savour fruits on their own, especially when they are in season and beautifully ripe. We simply choose a fruit and eat as much of it as we have, or feel like :)

Some of our favourites to enjoy are:

  • cherries
  • raspberries
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • nectarines
  • fresh figs
