Shona
Hello, I’m Shona and I enjoy being me, a mum and a part time veterinary surgeon. I am passionate about the health and wellbeing of humans, animals and our planet.
I have always had a passion for food, nature and life. The birth of my beautiful daughter, Jana, made me realise completely how we are part of something much bigger than ourselves. This prompted me to look more closely at the choices I make with regards to nutrition and lifestyle, and I became more committed than ever to living as ‘in balance’ with nature as possible in our modern lives. This feels important to me on many levels - in order to care for Jana and my family authentically, to care for the world in which we live and grow, and in order to fully care for myself, so I can give more to others.
Parenting is a massive undertaking and I can find myself feeling like a child again as I endeavour to nurture my child into the world - often like learning to parent myself at the same time! I believe many of us can feel this way at times and could do with some support and encouragement!
When we are aware how to fully care for ourselves, we can also more fully help others (including our children and families) and our world.
For me natural whole food nutrition, and a positive caring attitude with lots of fun and laughter, are fundamental aspects of our wellbeing.
The idea for our name comes from Jana’s love of frozen desserts and a love I feel for Italy. I once spent a whole day in Rome eating nothing but gelato - it was such good fun, and one of the best days of my life so far!
Real Italian Gelato (like much Italian food)is made from only the freshest most natural and quality ingredients, that are chosen and handled with care and passion and respect. This is how we like to approach our food, and our lives.
I am ‘serious’ about having fun and caring as much as I possibly can.
Being as inclusive, optimistic and encouraging as possible is important to me.
To relax I love to go swimming and for walks in the countryside, to play with Jana, to make things, to watch films and listen to music, and to create recipes in the kitchen. I have always had a particular love for making and sharing desserts!
My aim with thehappygelateria is to create a space for parents and children to gain support, encouragement and inspiration. I hope that it is a fun place for you to visit, relax, meet friends, and discover real sweetness in life.
If you have any feedback or suggestions about the site then I’d love to hear from you : shona@thehappygelateria.com
